Ohhh, have you heard of this? My brother was the one who first mentioned it, and it's great. See, supposedly wikipedia has a liberal bias, so Conservapedia was started. It's hilarious. It says that dinosaurs and people roamed the world together and I won't even go into what it says about evolution.
Conservapedia was started by a conservative guy and several homeschoolers (yep, that's right). There are certain rules, such as everything has to be spelled using the American Spelling (I want to just spell colour like that for now on, just to be ornery) and you have to use BC and AD when using dates, not BCE and CE, which I didn't even know about until I read the conservapedia's commandments.
The funniest this is that if you look at the statistics page, 5 of the top ten most visited pages have to do with homosexuality, one of them being more popular than the home page. Seriously, dude, what's the fascination?
I love it. Just goes to show you must to research, not just trust the first source that you find.

The safest spot in California
Yesterday was an interesting day. I went outside for my normal lunchtime excursion, or in other words, my desperately needed time away from the office. As I was walking toward capitol park, I noticed many police cars, both marked and unmarked, parked along the street. At L street, the entire block, from 15th to 10th was nothing more than a parking lot. The paint on the sides indicated there were cops here from Sacramento, Davis, Yuba City, Williams, Bakersfield, San Jose, Turkey, and many more. My estimate is I saw 300-400 vehicles, not counting the hundreds of motorcycles. As it ended up, I probably only saw half of the cars there.
Several of you have probably already figured out what was going on, but I was at a loss. Was there a convention? A party? I was obviously the safest spot in California, if I had screamed there would have been dozens if not hundreds of people running to my rescue, but why? And then, taking my normal route around capitol park, I passed the section that opened up to the Cathedral and I figured it out. Of course, how could I have forgotten? The service for the officer who was killed was going on. All of these cops, from all of the different cities in California, were here to mourn the lose of a "brother."
Most of the people at the service didn't even know the man, and yet, according to the Sacramento Bee, 4000 showed up to pay their respects. Here was a man who wanted to give back to his community and help protect it's people. Here was a father and a husband. Here was someone who wanted to serve. Here was someone who's life was cut too short. The result? I finally saw that there is one thing we will unite around in this country - death. Is that morbid? But it seems true.
I wonder what would happen if our papers were allow to print pictures of the caskets coming home from Iraq? Do you think we might actually begin to see what's happening over there instead of listening to others telling us every thing's okay? I wonder.
I honor the officers who took time out to pay their respects to their fallen comrade. I just wish we could find a different reason to unite us.
