I developed some bad habits while in law school, or at least one bad habit - watching TV. I never used to really watch it or care for it. Yep, it would be on when I sewed, and I had a hard time missing those Dr. Who episodes, but for the most part, I  just didn't watch that much TV.

To be honest, in law school, I didn't watch that much either. But when I needed a break, that is what I did. A TV show provided the perfect break.  It would be time limited, so I know when I needed to get back to work, I could pretend to work during the show, and it didn't me to prepared anything to go anywhere - I could take a quick break with a minimal disruption to my routine.

I have a problem now. When ever I need a break - I head for the tv. I don't look for something to sew, a project to start, or anything else to work on. I just sit in front a TV. Most of the times I am bored because TV shows are really stupid, and yet I still open up my computer, pull up netflix and watched the next installment of Star Trek TNG, for the 10th time.

I don't know it the TV thing is what changed me, but ever since law school, I have been as active as I used to be. I used to have projects and things to work on. I used to email friends and go out with people. I used to be excited about things. Since school, I feel like I've forgotten how to do anything interesting. I work, occasionally cook (ooh, I made a great tomato tart from cooks illustrated last week. Easy and yummy), and watch a lot of TV. I haven't even sewed anything recently, or crocheted, or knitted.  I haven't been thoughtful, interested, or creative.  This is not the person I want to be.

This has been going on for about a year now. Part of it is because I don't know that many people in Ventura so it's been hard to find people to go out with, but it's also partially because I'm just lazy. Once I start a project - I get very involved in it. Finding the energy to start anything has been lacking.  What an absolutely boring life.

The problem is, there is so many interesting things going on. Have you noticed the election? Part of me is disgusted with the world, the other part of me sees this as a huge train wreck and can't stop watching. Then there are 18, yes that is 18, propositions to vote on in California in November. Have fun researching them. I plan to try researching some of them and write about them. But most, well, most of the I'll just point you all to hopefully good and trustworthy resources.

Hopefully, you realize by now, my goal is to get back in the blogging game. And by blogging, I mean writing about something important once a week. That is one of my goals. That is one thing I plan on doing in order to stop watching TV and to try to get myself back in to the world around me instead of living in some little bubble watching everything go by.

So, goals for the next couple of years.

1) find a job in a field that I care about. Not that Worker's compensation is bad or unimportant, it's just not all that interesting or fun for me.
2) Do some pro bono work
3) Blog once a week
4) be more active and involved with my community
5) Only watch TV/movies with friends. Don't turn on the TV when I'm buy myself. Well, except for political things. I do have to watch some John Oliver from time to time (right?)
6) Sew something! (I think it's about time for a 20's outfit.  A nice one)
7) Go hiking! (Get hiking boots)
8) Umm, I had more but I can't think of them.

Time to get off my butt and do stuff! (how inspiring is that quote).

And for those of you who care about politics - this is GOOOD.
