Little Changes

Have you ever wanted to make a big change, but just couldn't do it? I'm like that all the time.  I want to change the world, but where oh where to I begin. I want to write a book - I think I did an hours worth of research.  I want to be neater so my home is presentable to others, so there aren't dirty dishes sprawled everywhere, and so I can walk from my front door to my bedroom without tripping.  Well, I did clean the bathroom last week.

But usually, I don't clean. I look at everything that has to be done, and sit down to read. Why clean? It will be there tomorrow, and if I just eat a protein bar for dinner, I won't even have to worry about the dishes. That green stuff growing on it? Not important, remember how penicillin was discovered.

Still, after falling over a sewing kit for about the 100th time, I figured I needed to so something. But simply trying to make everything neater, just didn't work. So I picked small things, that maybe will help. Just little baby steps that, if I do take, will make cleaning so much easier, when I get around to it. Little, little steps on the way to grown-up cleanliness. (If you've been invited to my place, remember, I cleaned before you got there. Probably for hours.)

For example, when I take off my shoes, I don't just strew them everywhere. I actually PUT THEM AWAY. Oh horrors. I don't think I've ever done that before. The hours I've spent searching for the other shoe because I knew it had to be around somewhere. Now, all shoes are actually in the closet where they belong, more or less.

I hang my clothes up when I take them off instead of leaving them on the bed (which is now made every morning), and dirty dishes are not allowed to hang out for more than a day. That's all that I've started with. Nothing big or major, but little things. I've done them all for a week, let's see how long I last.  Bets anyone?
