Oh, now I remember

I walked into my bedroom this morning and stopped short after my first step. Something was different - but what? Sure, it was cleaner than usual. I managed to finally hang up my jacket, fold my shirts, and pair the socks. Heck, I even put them back in the drawers they're supposed to go.

The bed was a mess with the fluffy blue comforter laying half on the floor and half on the bed. The book case looked overstuffed like a couch, with the books about to be squeezed out and spilled on the floor. Nope, no change there.

As I picked up the green pillow to place it at top the pile of sheets that is my bed, I figured it out...Sun. Oh, yeah. That's what it's like to have sun streaming in through the windows.

We Once Were a Democracy - and then The Supreme Court changed all that

A nice lovely supreme court decision today, by of course Alito, Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, and Kennedy, decided, in a nutshell (I don't have time for an in depth analysis - LSAT studying) corporations and unions can donate as much money as they want to a political campaign.  Yep that's right. Corporations and unions are afforded the same 1st amendment rights as a human being and they can say what they want and give as much money to whomever, whenever it please them. Heck, if they want to put comericals on for a movie about how horrible Hillary Clinton is without disclaimers or disclosures of donors, in the same month as a elections  - well why not? Who cares? What's the big deal? Businesses, after all, have our best interests at heart, don't they? They care about the welfare of the people and the great environmental and social restrictions on them. They wouldn't hire anyone under the age of 8 unless they really, really had to.

How in the G** Da** F***ing world can a corporation be afforded the same rights as an individual? Freedom of speech was given to us so we could speak out against our government without fear of reprisal. Its been subverted for the use and pleasure of the rich.

Watch out peoples. We are going to lose our democracy if things continue to go this way. Corporations are going to rule us. They already do by entertaining us to death, or at least to a point where we don't care about what is going on in the country or the world. Now they just get to choose who's in charge.

Avocados

I don't believe in God. Sorry, but it's not happening. I really don't believe in the whole Adam and Eve, garden of Eden story either. For those that are curious, men and women have the same number of ribs. There have been enough dissections in the world to prove that little fact.

However, if I did believe in God and Eden and such, I would have to say that Avocados are God's ways of apologizing for kicking humans out of Eden. Yeah, we deserved it. Adam and Eve did the one thing they weren't supposed to. But God still felt a little bad about the whole thing. She/He/It/Thing-a-ma-bob is a decent sort of creature and just had that little soft spot in it's heart. So God decided to let us have Avocados. A little slice of heaven here on earth. Yummy.

Bell peppers, on the other hand, well, we won't go into detail, but boy was God mad that day. Something to do with Crusades I think.

Why Woodland?

Too many of my friends live in Woodland. Yeah, that's right people, I'm talking about you. You live 21 miles away from me, via freeways, and over 25 miles away using surface streets.

I'm in the process of buying a new car. The one that I wanted, that was promised to me mid-January, has been delayed once again. The hope is that I will drive it the first week of February. Due to the delay, I've been looking at cars once again. What I really need, is a little bitty car that I can drive around for errands - when my bike is too small, to races -  because some of them are a distance away, and when it's raining. For longer drives, which I don't take all that often, I can rent a car (lots of options there, rent, share a care, etc.) or take the train.  I don't need a big fancy car. I don't even need the pretty Fit I'm going to buy. Don't get me wrong. I want my Fit, I'm drooling over it, I can't wait to get it. But truly, I don't need it.

With all of those requirements in mind, I was thinking of an electric car. I'm still not sure what I think about the batteries, but I do think they are better than any gas car out there. But there is no electric vehicle that can get me to Woodland and back for under $25,000.  There is one with a range of 22 miles and top speed of 40 mph. That doesn't do me any good. My battery will die before I even get to Woodland. And that car is $11,000.  I love the little Triac, 100 mile range, top speed 80mph, cost - $25,000 (w/o AC). I'd probably get it if it was 15,000. But alas, even with government rebates it's too much.

What a bummer. If I didn't have to worry about visiting all you people in Woodland, I could get a cute little electric car that only went 20 miles at a time. To work and home again.

Alas, unless a better option comes around soon, it looks like I'll be buying a gasoline powered vehicle one more time. Hopefully, this is the last time.
