High Security

At work today, my unit threw a birthday party. Every month, a different unit throws a birthday party for everyone in my program who had a birthday that month. There are 7 units, so every 7 months you have to pull something together. I hate it, but it's a ton easier than celebrating each person birthday individually. Lucky me, I never gave them my birthday. No one at work knows when it is and I don't ever have an individual or group celebration. Thanks goodness.

After a long discussion, my group decided on a pirate theme. September 19th was "International Talk Like a Pirate Day" and I could borrow a lot of decorations meaning we didn't have to buy or make anything. This makes preparation easy and considering how understaffed and overworked we are, easy is important.

Shannon lent me quite a bit of stuff including her beautiful sword. It's lovely. It's practically as tall as I am (well, probably closer to 3 1/2 feet) with a well designed and heavy hilt. I don't have long enough arms to pull the sword out of the scabbard in one go.   I have to fumble around a bit every time I try.

Today at work I bring in a box of decorations and this nice long sword. I walk right past the security guards and they don't even give me a second glance. No comment, no look, nothing. Later on in the day, I'm carrying the sword around, just the sword, and I pass right in front of another security guard. Again, no comment.

I can't get past the guards without my badge, but I can get past them carrying a 3 ft sword. Right now my boss is hoping she doesn't have any disgruntled employees.

  1. I'm not sure Inbarati is battle worthy, so try to attack anyone, okay? Or at least clean off the blood before you return it.
