Well, I won't be going to South Africa after all and British Airways really needs to fix their website. According to their site, there are all sorts of flights available to get me to Johannesburg. That's why Jeff thought this would work. He didn't suggest that I should even go to South Africa until he looked on the web site and checked to see if there was something available.
Everytime I go to buy a ticket, it says the flight has sold out while my transaction was in process. So I finally called the company and asked what was going on. Why were these flights listed as available but not allowing me to book them? His short answer, the web site was wrong. The guy I talked to was a real help (and funny too. A good guy to work with.) he tried very hard to get me there and found a flight from Sac to NY to Hong Kong to Johannesburg, the problem was he couldn't get me back in time for my start date of the 21st. The last thing I want to do is go to my new boss and ask her to start even later. She said she wanted me there last week. And as much as I would love to visit South Africa, I would like to be able to come home.
So, as of right now, since I have a real job that gives me vacation (3 weeks a year) I am going to visit my brother next year for two weeks. Am I bummed? Well duh. I was really excited about going to SA. At least I still have a chance to go next year, but I really wanted to go on this trip. Stupid British Airways website. Go fix it people. I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up if it weren't for you. And thank you to the guy who helped me. I wish I remembered your name so that I could send in good comments to your boss. I will probably try anyways.
