Cooking

As most of you know, I am not much of a cook. I don't like it much, and I don't have that ability to cook without a recipe, although I have been told the more I learn the more likely I am going to be able to do that. As of right now, my cooking exploits are few and my knowledge is even less. Up till recently, I really never new the difference between a bay and basil!! It took a course in how to make fresh pesto that really taught me what each one was. Well, at least what basil is.

The problem with not knowing how to cook, is the type of food one eats. I'll admit that I have probably eaten more than my fair share of Kraft Mac and Cheese (oddly ,I don't even have one in the pantry now) and sandwiches. And then, when I started looking at all the ingredients in the tv dinners and stuff, I got really disgusted. Who knows what's actually in those things? I like the idea of real food.

So, I had a choice. Either not eat, which I tried for about a month but didn't really like, or cook. Sigh, so I have started cooking. Yesterday I made a Turkey dinner ($6 for a 16lbs turkey right after christmas, not a bad deal) and today I made soup from the bones and veggies I had hanging around. There's mushroom stroganoff in the fridge and lasagna in the freezer. There are packets of yeast in the pantry so I can make my own bread (!!) and by far more veggies than beer in the fridge (so much so I can't fit them all in the crisper.) Something about this whole blog makes me feel so grown up......damn. But at least the food is good.
