What's in a name?

One thing I am getting good at because of work is SAS. SAS stands for (or at least it did) Statistical Analysis Software. It's a good program and it's fun to program in. I like playing with it and getting it to do what I want. Figuring out what my predecessor did, and why, hasn't been so fun. But I think I have mentioned that before.

Now that I am getting good at SAS, I am going to some SAS conferences. One that I am planning to go to is in October. It's Conference that the the Western Users of SAS Software ... or in other words...WUSS, put on. And yes, I have been asked if I am going to WUSS this October. I can't even begin to explain how fitting that name is, but don't you think that a bunch of nerds could have come up with a better way to describe themselves? There have to be better names than Wuss. I know one guy who refused to wear the free, very nice, shirt they passed out at the conference. Wh? Because WUSS was embroidered on the front in very beautiful big letters. Who wants to wear that?

What about SAS Users in the west - SUW?

Or Western Area SAS People - WASP

Or Western Area SAS Users and People -WAS'UP

Or SAS Employers in the West - SEW (I like that one).

But why, oh why, do the nerds (by the way, I do include myself in this category) choose Wuss?
