I bought a bike. Not just any 'ol bike to be used about town, but a racing bike. A real to goodness, top notch, racing bike. Aluminum frame with carbon stays and fork. 27 speeds, clip in shoes and pedals, and shimano gears. It's an amazing bike. I've gone out three time already and my speeds are in the high teens and I even hit the 20's for a short period of time. Ohh, it's such a pretty bike and about 100 times lighter than my mountain bike. It just makes me feel like I could ride forever. Its lovely.
Every time I think of it's price, I have to remind myself "I saved for a year...I saved for a year." I got it on sale and I need a bike like this if I want to race (and I do!). But wow. "I saved for a year, I saved for a year."
I have to recommend City Bicycle works as a place to go. Despite their sale and the fact they were busy, I spent 2 1/2 hours trying bikes and looking at pedals, shoes, computers, bags, tools, etc. Matt walked me through all of it and even put the clips on the bottom of my shoes himself. Totally awesome service. Of course I was spending a ton and it wasn't too hard to talk me in to buy some more, so he had it easy. I figured I was already spending the money, I need to make sure to have the best (and he purposively found the cheapest shoes for me. There are some benefits to having small feet). Matt did say he was glad I found him, I was more fun to work with then most customers. :-)
At first I was a little worried. Instead of regular pedals I bought clip-ins. This is something I had to be talked into, although I was already thinking of it. If I wanted to race, I needed them. The problem with clip-ins is that your feet are stuck on the pedal. You can't just put your foot down. I needed to practice a couple of times on the grass to get used to them and I did fall, but once I was comfortable, I was so glad I bought them. They are pretty easy to get out of and they make riding so much better. Now I can push and pull on the pedals which makes for a ton more power. Going up hills is a lot easier then they used to be. I can believe how much easier they make riding.
So anyway, there is my rave about my awesome amazing bike. I love my bike. It's wonderful. Its the best thing ever. :-)
