This hasn't been the greatest week. It hasn't been the worst either. Kinda in between with a brights spots, annoying spots, and a downright utterly dittzy spot.
To begin. I think I'm getting a cold....again. Either that or my body is having trouble fighting off an infection due to the little lovely immunosuppressant I'm on. I'm rooting for the cold. I really don't want to be sick again. I've been sick about once a month since I started this medication. The meds are great because I don't have to take prednisone, but suck because they make me feel like a sicko. There was a time when I didn't get sick for 2-3 years straight. Now colds almost feel like a normal part of life. I wish they didn't.
To top it all off, I hurt my foot a week ago, and am still in pain. I am not sure what I did, but it started hurting after one run and hasn't stopped since. At this moment I am on my couch, hoping a sore throat goes away and tending to my poor foot. My next 1/2 marathon is in less then two weeks and my first run in a week was yesterday. I skipped training today because it still hurts.
Oh, and guess what comes with a pain that lasts a week....a trip to the doctor. Oh, but isn't this a pretty picture - me absolutely frustrated with Kaiser. The doctor I saw last time for my foot now only works 1 day in sacramento and 4 days in Roseville. Her first appointment in Sac is April 13th. I can't wait a month to see why I'm having problems walking! Really, I can't. Do you remember the part about me having a 1/2 marathon in less then two weeks? Yea. I'm not waiting for April. I was told my G.P. needs to refer me to another doctor if I want to be seen in Sacramento (they can't just pawn me off on someone else. I'm sure there is an excellent explanation, but it's still frustrating on the patient side). I email my G.P., she gets me an appointment for March 16th (not quite what I wanted, but better then April 13th).....with the SAME doctor. Yea, that one that didn't have an opening before April 13th. Yup, it's with her. Jimminy Freakin Crickets.
Now, to make me feel stupid, I got home early yesterday because class was cancelled. YEAAA. I went home, smelled my house, and decided to do the right thing and toss the garbage. So I grab my plastic garbage can, walk over to that big communal garbage bin, lift the top, turn the can over to dump the contents, and subsequently drop the can into the big bin. So here I am in a skirt, it's raining big fat droplets (not those little ones that sting, but big, gloppy, fat ones) so I'm beginning to get soaked, the communal bin was just emptied so it's practically empty except for this little black plastic garbage can way down there at the bottom. The environmentalist in me begged me to go get it, the rational side said if I go in, I might not be able to get out (short person - tall bin) and wouldn't that just be an embarrassing situation. Not only that, but I'd sure smell bad for a while. I wonder how long garbage smell lasts. I didn't remove my can. So now I feel really bad because I've thrown out this perfectly good plastic can. Seriously, I keep trying to figure out how I am going to go and get out. Each day that passes makes it harder and harder. And ... my foot still hurts.
(Have you figured out the ditzy part of the week? Hope so)
Yesterday I also had a competition, a toastmasters competition. A person came to our meeting, gave a speech, and four of us had to give a 2-3 minutes evaluation of the speech (we didn't get to see the other people's evaluation until after we had given ours). The winner goes on to the next stage. I hate giving evaluations. I really do. I was talking into this kicking and screaming (I volunteered for the speech portion of the competition next week. Any ideas on what I should talk about?) The results, I was the runner up, second place person. The 1st place person had to go on and I was next best. Thank goodness, I don't have to do any more evaluations. What a sigh of relief. That is, until the person who won decides to inform me that he has surgery the day of the next competition and he needs me to step in to his place. You've got to be kidding me. Why I ask....why? (dramatic hand to the forehead scene right here).
Well, I guess that's they way things run. Some times they are good, sometimes bad, and sometimes darn ditzy. And the week's only half over. Such is life.
