Dinner Snafu

I really dislike when people don't think through their plans thoroughly.

The people at my school want to be really nice and have a dinner for those of us with the Kennedy Fellowship. The scholarship is a big honor and  I can see why they would want to do something for us. Here's the problem, it's on a Thursday night, @ 6:30.  Guess what, all 1st and 2nd year evening students have class on Thursday nights from 6:15-9:30. Yep, every single one of us and there isn't a dean in this school that doesn't know that.

Still, they schedule a dinner on a Thursday night. Seriously? And it's not like they have that many students to consider, there are only 14 of us in the whole school. You'd think they could realize that one of them is an evening student.  I mean I'm a starving student who is supposed to pick going to class (which you would assume that someone who wants to keep this scholarship would like to do) and a nice dinner where I have to dress up.  Which would you choose (and put yourself in the shoes of a nerd who's paranoid about losing her scholarship)?

When I brought this point up, I was offered lunch alone with one of the deans. Let's see - I'm an evening student,  that might mean I work during the day. Let me check my schedule - Yes, I do work during the day. What an on concept. Lunch is probably not going to work. Do they even think about the evening students? I guess we are just not as important (ie we don't bring in as much money) as the day people.

I do realize I shouldn't get upset, they are just trying to be nice. But to me it smacks of incompetence when you don't even consider the schedules of the people you are trying to honor. Or am i already turning into one of those stuck up, my way or the highway, type of person already?
