The first one is over

My Torts exam is OVER.  Well, the first one anyways. This is a year long course so this exam was basically my midterm and was only 30% of my grade. The other 70% comes around in May. I actually like that. I've really enjoyed not being in a lab for 6+ hours a week, not have problem sets due on a regular basis, or writing tons of papers (well, okay, I did that for the stupid lawyering skills class - but I think I blocked the pain and suffering from memory). Reading a studying a lot with two exams is so much nicer than constant assignments and work. Ick.

I think I did well on the exam - not great - but well. I know there are a few issues I missed on one part of the essay - but the other part - oh I know I kicked butt. Really, that I do know. But that is all I have to say about the exam. I'm one of those really weird people that absolutely HATE talking about exams afterwards. I always think of more I could have said and different ways I could have answered the questions, and then I start questioning myself. Often I question myself needlessly - I'm usually right. Sometimes I'm not, and I'm wrong. But once people start telling me what they thought - my stomach goes into knots  and I start worrying.  I've learned not to let that happen. I just don't talk about the exam,  and I don't stress myself out. Easy peasy.

Since this test was only worth 30%, even if I totally screwed up yesterday - I can redeem myself in May. Which I might have to do. The legal information is not hard for me, but the process is. I'm very used to one way of thinking, writing, and studying and it hasn't always worked for law school. I'm very goal orientated - discovering the facts and putting the issues in their little boxes. I'm very good at figuring things out just by making tons of assumptions (that I don't usually realize I make) and jump to a conclusion. Again, I'm right more often than not (not bragging, just true. The assumptions I make are usually valid).  But in law school, they want to know what assumptions I made and why and I have to explain both sides of the problem, not just my side. In other arena's,  I'm usually right - I've had to learn that in law, I'm not.

I still have one more final - Thursday at 6. Contracts. I'm not as worried about contracts as I was about torts. Contract seems more linear and definitive.  Sure, there are debates as to what the contract language means, but that's fun to argue. So, you all have to wish me luck one more time (remember - Thursday from 6-9) and then buy me alcohol (or at least chocolate) afterwards! :-)

After Thursday - I come out of my little cocoon for three weeks.  Take advantage of my free time while you can!
